Cashless treatment facilities will now be accessible to all beneficiaries of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), including serving personnel and pensioners, at six All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Jodhpur, Raipur, and Rishikesh. This significant decision was made today as Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between these six AIIMS and CGHS, under the Union Health Ministry, in the presence of Shri Rajesh Bhushan, the Union Health Secretary. The key features of this initiative are as follows:

1. CGHS pensioners and other eligible categories of CGHS beneficiaries will be eligible for cashless treatment in outpatient department (OPD), investigations, and inpatient treatment at these six AIIMS.

2. These six AIIMS will raise credit bills for CGHS pensioners and other eligible beneficiaries, which will be submitted to CGHS. CGHS will aim to make payment within 30 days upon receiving the bills.

3. Admission of CGHS beneficiaries at AIIMS will be granted only upon the presentation of a valid CGHS Beneficiary ID Card.

4. AIIMS will establish a dedicated Help Desk and a separate accounting system for CGHS beneficiaries.

Medications prescribed by AIIMS doctors for OPD treatment or at the time of discharge will be provided to the beneficiaries through CGHS. The Health Secretary commended this development, emphasizing that CGHS is a crucial service-oriented department of the Health Ministry, enabling current and retired employees to access medical services. He further expressed the government's commitment to expanding the number of hospitals empaneled under CGHS to provide exceptional tertiary care aligned with the growing needs of patients. He also mentioned that in the future, AIIMS institutions in New Delhi, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research Chandigarh, and the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, will be included in this agreement.

Shri Rajesh Bhushan explained that this agreement will benefit a significant portion of the population by streamlining formalities and expediting access to medical care. He highlighted that it will also enhance the reach of CGHS services across the country, allowing beneficiaries to avail CGHS benefits from AIIMS institutions in their respective states. He further noted that CGHS has revised certain treatment and medical care rates, making it more accessible for patients to receive necessary treatment.

Under CGHS, beneficiaries are referred to government and private hospitals empaneled under the scheme for inpatient treatment. CGHS pensioners and other entitled categories of beneficiaries can avail cashless facilities at these empaneled hospitals. CGHS provides comprehensive healthcare, both outpatient and inpatient, to Central Government employees, pensioners, their dependent family members, Members of Parliament, ex-MPs, and other eligible beneficiaries. Currently, CGHS operates in 79 cities across the country.

As part of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), 22 new AIIMS have been established throughout the country, with varying degrees of operationalization. These premier institutions not only offer quality medical education and research facilities but also provide specialized patient care services in various specialties and super specialties, including cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, urology, cardiovascular thoracic surgery, oncology, and more. Additionally, they offer trauma and emergency care services, as well as state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities, including blood banks.

The MoA signing event was attended by Additional Secretary Smt V. Hekali Zhimomi, Joint Secretary Smt Ankita Mishra, Joint Secretary Dr. Manashvi Kumar, Director of CGHS Dr. Jain, along with other senior government
