Sub: Special care of train running staff during excessive heatwave conditions.

It has been learnt that a number of staff are being affected badly during train operation due to excessive heatwave conditions prevailing at present. This is emergency like situation from the health point of view. To ensure normal train running, keeping in mind the health condition of the train running staff (LP, ALP, Guard, Station staff moving outside the station), especially Guards working in Goods train, it is required that special care must be taken to safeguard them.

Following steps are suggested to be taken wherever felt necessary, beyond the other suitable actions, as deem fit:-

1. Arrangements of cool drinking water to be ensured at stations and whenever it is required, to be supplied to running staff, even by stopping the train, if needed.

2. In case of any running staff reporting about health conditions during run, fresh crew to be arranged, if needed and medical aid to be provided for the involved staff at the nearest place.

3. Oral Rehydration Salt like Electral etc. to be arranged and supplied to all such staff involved in train operation, so that the same can be used by them as and when required.

4. Additionally, Glucose, Sattu (Roasted Gram Flour), Salt, Sugar, Lemon etc to be arranged at selected stations in the sections and its water mixed solution to be provided to such staff as per demand or choice, so that they can be able to

maintain energy during run in the excessive heatwave conditions.

5. Running staff be advised to keep cool water with them and insulated water bottles of suitable size be supplied to them, if felt necessary at the respective Depots.

The above to be implemented with immediate effect. Station Imprest can be used for such arrangements as a special case or suitable fund/Spl Imprest be arranged locally. The above arrangements should be made during the period of excessive heatwave conditions as assessed by the divisions and in the identified sections.
